What is SEO and Why Should You Care?
What is SEO? Why should you care?
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) maximizes the number of visitors to a particular website. SEO strategically positions your website so potential clients can discover it while surfing the net. It does this by ensuring the site appears high on the list of results returned by a search engine.
There are two types of Search Engine Optimization—on-page and off-page.
On-page SEO is anything you can control on your own website to improve your visibility in search rankings. Off-page SEO is anything done on other websites that influences your rankings, such as links to your website.
Text, image names, and hidden keywords used to describe your pages determines Search Engine Optimization. The relevancy of your content also determines SEO.
You can, and should, accomplish SEO in many different ways!
What is SEO?
Potential clients utilize search engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc.) to find your website. Good needs to know what type of content you’re including on your website in order to connect users to it. It also needs to know which target audience you are trying to reach.
Google and other search engines use a “search bot” to seek out and index websites. This allows it to discover the purpose behind your website. You can help these “bots” out by including additional information for them to read. Thus, optimizing your website for search engines.
In order to keep search results fair and relevant to the query a user enters, Search Engine Optimization is used. Websites with a small advertising budget are just as likely to be discovered as those with a large advertising budget!
Why should you care about Search Engine Optimization?
If your site meets the SEO criteria of the query entered by the user, you will have a better chance of showing up on the first page of search results (i.e. Page 1 of Google). People trust search engines to give them relevant results. Achieving this goal gives your site credibility with users, thus driving more traffic to your website.
Not only does high-ranking SEO drive potential clients to your website, but it also ensures your website is user-friendly. As a result, you are more likely to have repeat visitors to your website.
In summary, SEO is important because it means people don’t typically need to spend more than a few seconds to find information relevant to the search request they made. Without SEO, search results would easily be manipulated causing the user to spend considerably more time trying to find the information they were looking for.
