If you’re asking this question, it’s likely you’ve already confirmed God has called you to be a faith-supported missionary. You may also feel confident you know where He has called you to serve. You may not have a step-by-step plan for the ministry He has called you to (we seldom do). However, you have cleared the first and most important hurdle when it comes to support raising – you know your calling.
Ministry Partner Development
The next hurdle involves having a good understanding of what it means to be a faith-supported missionary. It’s important to know what God’s Word says about it so you can clearly communicate it to others as you begin to develop a plan for Ministry Partner Development (MPD).
While there are many books written on this subject, I highly recommend reading “Funding Your Ministry” by Scott Morton. This book will help you gain a better understanding of what it looks like to be a faith-supported missionary. You can also find a wealth of free resources on his website (scottmorton.net) which are updated regularly. This may be the only tool you need for your MPD plan!
If you desire in-person training, I recommend the Support Raising Solutions (SRS) Bootcamp (supportraisingsolutions.org). SRS has trained thousands of missionaries and cover every aspect of MPD.
The resources offered by Scott Morton and Support Raising Solutions will help you develop a plan for your MPD.
Conclusion
Do not delay putting your plan into action. Make Ministry Partner Development your full-time job. DO NOT try to do this as a part-time activity!
Funding your ministry is just as important as any other aspect of what God has called you to do in your service to Him.
If Jesus relied on others to fund His ministry (Luke 8:2-3), then we can certainly expect He will enable us to do likewise.
